Emergency Pothole Repairs to Protect Motorist Safety Freshwater Roadworks

Emergency pothole repairs were carried out this morning to ensure the safety of all road users. We understand these works caused significant traffic disruptions, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to motorists.

See Civil made every effort to complete the repairs before peak-hour traffic commenced. However, ongoing rain, combined with some motorists travelling through the work zone above the posted speed limit, damaged the temporary road surface and resulted in rapid pothole deterioration.

The potholes developed to a point where the road was considered unsafe, with concerns raised about the potential for vehicle damage and accidents. Safety must always remain the top priority.

Crews worked throughout the night in difficult weather conditions to address the issue. Unfortunately, the supplier of the required bitumen was unavailable until 7:00AM, delaying final repair works.

Unfortunately, the temporary pavement on the northern side has not performed as well as the road contractor had been advised. See Civil has committed to undertaking daily inspections and pothole repairs to maintain safe conditions for the community.

In addition, See Civil is working closely with its asphalt supplier to install an additional asphalt layer across both trafficked lanes as soon as possible to further address the issue. Preparations are also underway to relocate the water main beneath the existing road pavement. There will be no interruption to water services during these works.

We kindly ask all motorists to observe posted speed limits and signage when travelling through roadwork areas. Doing so helps protect the road surface and ensures the safety of both workers and road users.

See Civil has worked closely with Council to implement a more durable solution to reduce severe potholing, with these works being completed today. All lanes in both directions are expected to fully reopen by 2:30PM this afternoon.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and understanding.
